What Your Immune System Needs During Perimenopause – Free Webinar with Dr. Lexi Gonzalez and Dr. Jocelyn Strand
Perimenopause changes more than most women are ever told. It is not only about shifting cycles, sleep, or sudden waves of heat. Beneath the surface, your immune system is adapting too, and that can shape how you feel day to day in ways that are easy to miss.
As estrogen declines, inflammation can rise, immune signaling can become less balanced, and the gut can play a bigger role in how your body processes stress, hormones, and recovery. So symptoms that seem disconnected can start to form a clearer pattern, which means there is real value in understanding what is happening beneath them.
In this grounded educational session, two doctors with different specialties come together to explain that picture in plain language. You will hear how perimenopause affects immune function, why the gut matters so much in this transition, and what supportive steps may help you feel more informed and more at home in your body.
Why Attend “What Your Immune System Needs During Perimenopause”
Most women hear about hormones during perimenopause, but few hear a clear explanation of what happens to the immune system alongside those hormonal shifts. This session helps connect those dots, so symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, joint discomfort, skin changes, and low-grade inflammation make more sense in a fuller biological context.
Dr. Lexi Gonzales and Dr. Jocelyn Strand come from different but complementary backgrounds, which means you get a wider view instead of a one-note conversation. One brings deep training in women’s health and functional medicine, and the other brings years of clinical and research experience in the gut-immune connection, so the science feels practical rather than abstract.
When you understand how estrogen, inflammation, immune signaling, and the microbiome interact, it becomes easier to ask better questions and make more grounded decisions about support. That matters during perimenopause because informed care can reduce confusion, and it can help you relate to this transition with more clarity and less self-doubt.
What You’ll Learn
In this session, you’ll begin with a clear look at why perimenopause is not only a hormonal transition but an immune one too, so the changes you are feeling can be understood in a more complete way. You’ll hear how estrogen helps regulate immune activity, and then what tends to happen as that regulation shifts.
We’ll move into the inflammatory and microbiome side of the picture, which means you’ll get a practical explanation of how cytokines, gut bacteria, and immune balance intersect during this stage of life. You’ll also see why the gut matters so much here, so that symptoms that once felt scattered can start to feel connected.
You’ll leave with a stronger grasp of what current clinical thinking suggests about supporting immune regulation during perimenopause, and then how to think more wisely about next steps. The goal is not overwhelm but orientation, so you can better understand what your body may be asking for and where deeper support may fit.
Here’s just a little bit of what you’ll learn:
- Why perimenopause can be understood as an immune event
- How declining estrogen affects immune regulation
- What happens to NK cells during this transition
- Why IL-6, TNF-alpha, and IL-1-beta matter
- How inflammation may relate to common symptoms
- Why the gut microbiome plays a bigger role now
- How gut shifts may affect estrogen processing
- What research suggests about immune support during perimenopause
- How functional medicine and microbiome research overlap here
- What questions to ask when seeking further support
Who This Webinar Is For
This event is for women moving through perimenopause who want a deeper explanation of what may be happening in the body, especially when symptoms feel broader than hormones alone can explain. It is also a good fit for anyone who appreciates science-forward education presented in a way that is clear, calm, and usable.
You may find this session especially helpful if you have been noticing fatigue, inflammation, brain fog, skin shifts, digestive changes, or a general sense that your system feels less resilient than it used to. It also serves women who want to understand the gut-immune connection more clearly, so they can approach this transition with more context and confidence.
- Women currently in perimenopause
- Anyone curious about inflammation and hormone shifts
- Those dealing with brain fog, fatigue, or joint discomfort
- Women wanting to understand the gut-immune connection
- People seeking a research-based view of symptom patterns
- Those exploring supportive next steps with more clarity
About Dr. Lexi Gonzales and Dr. Jocelyn Strand
Dr. Lexi Gonzales earned a Master of Science in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins and completed her doctorate in naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University. She is an IFM-Certified Practitioner who specializes in women’s health, with a strong interest in translating complex science into practical understanding.
Her training also includes serving as the first-ever Medical Education Resident at the Institute for Functional Medicine. That background gives her a rare ability to bridge cellular science, hormone transitions, and whole-person care in a way that feels both grounded and relevant.
Dr. Jocelyn Strand also earned her doctorate in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University and spent more than a decade in clinical practice in Duluth, Minnesota. Her work focused on challenging GI, autoimmune, and complex chronic cases, which gave her a deep foundation in the relationship between the gut and the immune system.
She is now the Senior Director of Clinical Education and Research at Biocidin Botanicals, where she publishes peer-reviewed research and teaches clinicians around the world. Together, Dr. Gonzales and Dr. Strand bring a strong blend of women’s health, immunology, and microbiome insight to this conversation.

Why is perimenopause considered an immune event?
Because estrogen helps regulate immune activity, and when estrogen declines, immune function can shift in measurable ways. That may include changes in inflammatory signaling, immune cell behavior, and how the body responds to stress and recovery.
What are NK cells and why do they matter here?
NK cells are natural killer cells, part of your immune system’s early defense response. In this webinar, the speakers will discuss research suggesting that these cells may increase in number during perimenopause while losing some of their functional effectiveness.
What does the gut have to do with perimenopause symptoms?
The gut plays a major role in immune activity and also influences how estrogen is processed in the body. Changes in the gut microbiome during perimenopause may affect inflammation, hormone recycling, and overall resilience.
Will this session talk about inflammation markers?
Yes. The event is expected to cover key inflammatory markers such as IL-6, TNF-alpha, and IL-1-beta, along with why they matter in the broader perimenopause picture.
Is this about hormone therapy or natural support?
This session focuses on education around immune function, inflammation, and the gut-immune connection during perimenopause. It may reference supportive strategies, but it is not framed as a one-size-fits-all treatment conversation.
Is this session medical advice?
No. The webinar is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for personalized medical care, diagnosis, or treatment.
Can I attend if I’m not sure I’m in perimenopause yet?
Yes. This session may still be helpful if you suspect you are entering perimenopause or want to understand early changes before they become more disruptive.
