3 Ways To Get Motivated Again – Guest Post by Grant Cardone

What do you do when you’re not feeling it?

Because no matter who you're watching or who you're following on social media…

Whether it's a politician, a rapper, a movie star, a teacher, a coach, or a parent…

No matter how much confidence they put out…

Everyone wakes up and has days when they aren’t feeling it.

They don’t want to do anything…

They’re feeling uncertain…

Or they’re feeling down.

You know, everybody expects me to be feeling it all the time…

They expect me to 10X everything… and to feel 100% every single day.

And that’s not the case with me.

So today, I'm going to share 3 things that I do to get through a funk.

Here’s the first thing I do. 

I get a little closer to where I want to be…

Just like I did when I was 30 years old and starting my speaking career.

I knew back then that I wanted to become one of the top 3 speakers in the world…

But I didn't know how I was going to get there.

So I just got a little closer each day.

I flew to all these cities I’d never been to in my life…

I was going door-to-door to businesses around America…

In cities where I knew no one, and no one knew me.

Remember, I had no name, no books, and no social media back then.

This might surprise you, but I NEVER felt like doing it…

I was scared to death and I had no clue what I was doing…

I didn’t even know how much I believed in what I was doing.

I believed in myself, but I didn’t have any statistics, facts, or success stories to prove myself yet.

It was terrifying.

And to conquer the fear… I would just get a little closer…

A little closer to the location… a little closer to the action.

Taking that little step can help you go a long way.

In fact, you don't have to commit to doing anything completely… just get a little closer each day.

Now, here’s the second thing I do.

I tell myself, “Do it anyway.”

I learned this from a buddy of mine when I first started my business.

I had just lost a job and was making a mid-career transition.

So I was having a lot of problems… and going through tremendous amounts of uncertainty.

Not many people besides my twin brother know this…

But I actually went a year without working and just lived off my savings.

So my buddy got real with me.

He told me something that has stuck with me now for almost 30 years.

He said, “Look, when you wake up in the morning, no matter what you're feeling, no matter how much you hurt, no matter if your eyes are bleeding… Do it anyway.”

So that’s what I’ve been doing for the past 30 years.

It’s not about whether I’m feeling it… feeling motivated… or feeling hyped up.

You can’t count on something as fickle as motivation to get things done.

So no matter how it feels, do the hard thing anyway.

And here’s the third thing I do…

I show up and give it my best shot.

It doesn’t matter what outcome you’re looking for, whether it’s doing a presentation, making a phone call, or going to the gym…

Once you're in there, once you get going…

Start moving in that direction… and give it your best shot.

When I don’t want to work out… I put on my gym clothes and walk around outside the gym.

Eventually, the momentum gets me inside the gym… and I work out for maybe three minutes.

The next thing I know, I realize I’m glad to be there… and I give it my best shot.

So if you’re struggling to push through each day… remember:

  1. Get a little closer.
  2. Do it anyway.
  3. Once you get in there, give it your best shot.

And if you get to (3) and you're still struggling…

Remember when you leave, at least you showed up.

At least you gave it something.

And then do the same thing again the next day.
